Murphy Beds can generally take standard mattresses but their can be a few things to consider, mainly weight & depth of the mattress.

Beds with spring mechanisms often need a mattress of a certain weight to stop the bed from raising up, usually a standard spring mattress will be adequate or a high density foam mattress.

Some Murphy Beds will need mattresses of a certain depth as the mattress may get jammed against the wall when it is being raised or lowered. A mattress of 20cm or less is usually sufficient.
